Finding a job in Norway
It's harder then you would think.
Even though I have a diploma in tourism and a certificate in pastry, it is really hard to find a job in your own profession. I am searching for a job for more than 8 month now, and I can't say I was successful so far, and I am not gonna lie it feels horrible, makes me think I am not good enough, and worthless. But maybe now, all my efforts seems to be paying off.
So how is it working?
Now let's start with, that I am aware of that some of you who are reading these lines will think "Tell me something new!" But maybe this writing will find some audience who are just about to experience job searching.
It all starts with a big old google search. Google job offering pages, even though they usually offer the same jobs, it is smart to register as much websites as possible. In my case it was Norwegian websites such as Finn.no , Jooble.org or Indeed.com. These websites are going to be your best friends during the search. All of them offers e-mail subscriptions, so you will get an e-mail everyday containing all of the new job advertisements. I can not recommend more to subscribe to all of them, it is one of the best thing they can offer.
Second step is to apply any job advertisement that you find without special education request. Now you may think that you don't want to be a shop assistant or seller or anything that you don't like, but hear me out! You only gonna get feedback like 1% of the applying that you delivered. And it's sad. Most of the time there is not even a NO or any answer from 99% of the offers.
So don't be picky, but of course the jobs you like and you have education for should be priorities.
And then you just have to wait and hope for an answer and follow the instructions, if you get. :) And never give up! Hard work pays off always :) Be positive and don't let them break your mood and excitement.
The last but most important step is to apply for tax card here in Norway, because otherwise you have to pay more tax. About How to apply for tax card I wrote in my previous post called "Moving to Norway - the struggles and joys". You can search back and read more about it and I hope you can find some useful informations.
